ABOUT US
Tradition and modernity
We are proud to revive an old tradition of knife making. The Nordic knives are crafted entirely in the “old style”:
A single piece of steel and a handle made of wood – the focus on the core essentials, what really matters in a kitchen knife. Already in Roman times similar knife constructions belonged to the everyday life in Europe; In the Central European area such constructions were manufactured not until the 18. Century. We really want to build on this old tradition – which especially has grown and sophisticated in the past of Germany – to build a contrast to today’s market and mainstream.
The shape of the blade is both based on Asian as well as old domestic forms, which we consider to be perfect and optimal for general purpose kitchen knives: a wide blade for a save cutting experience, a sharp moulding for the perfect and fine work (such as opening and removing the seeds from a paprika). Today as then: Such knives need attention and care, resulting in a virtual lifelong function as the perfect kitchen assistant.
Both the Vankka Suuri and the Vankka Pieni will definitely enrich your kitchen with exceptional design and will almost certainly attract the attention of your guests.
Production and refinement
The knives are handcrafted in Finland by an award-winning blacksmith (he exclusively provides the blade with his emblem) and finished in perfection in Germany by the experts from the Kubesch knife grinding craftsmen in Fulda – to cut a long story short: a perfect and highly successful synthesis of Finnish and German craftsmanship. .
It is important to us that we deal fairly with all of our partners along the production lines, because we think that every job is worth the money. This is what we call sustainable top craftsmanship from the EU.
